Grid scale energy storage resources are increasingly showing up in utility Integrated Resource Planning (IRP) processes, and being deployed across the country on the transmission grid. Due to the unique characteristics and qualities of energy storage, special due diligence and planning is necessary to properly model storage in IRPs.

This session will evaluate best strategies and due diligence for energy storage modeling in IRPs, analyzing factors such as economic feasibility, non-wire alternative benefits, grid flexibility benefits, and ability to integrate increased renewable energy. Overall, panelists will evaluate a variety of best practices and modeling tools, showcasing lessons learned from specific storage modeling case studies.
