Each Hybrid Enhanced Gas Turbine (EGT) contains an advanced lithium-ion battery energy storage system (BESS) that can dispatch 10 MW instantaneously, dramatically increasing grid reliability and resiliency, and giving the peaker time to come online, if needed. The instantaneous response capability allows the Hybrid EGT to participate in California ISO’s spinning reserves markets 24-7, without fuel consumption or emissions. By carrying operating reserves for grid reliability, it facilitates a more efficient resource dispatch on the grid. The Hybrid EGT helps overcome operational challenges caused by intermittency in renewable generation. Supporting customer expectations to provide safe, reliable, affordable, and clean power while upgrading and modernizing the grid, each SCE project not only reduces costs, it also cuts greenhouse gas (GHG) and particulate emissions up to 60% and each installation will save about 2 million gallons of demineralized water annually. The Hybrid EGT is accelerating the transition towards the grid of the future and provides exceptional value to SCE customers and shareholders.
