Snohomish County Public Utility District (SNOPUD) and Doosan GridTech partnered to develop and deploy an innovative approach to energy storage, aimed at helping electric utilities increase their use of renewable energy and improve overall reliability. The MESA-1 installation is the first energy storage system built on the Modular Energy Storage Architecture (MESA), an innovative approach to energy storage based on open, non-proprietary industry standards. The system is also completely integrated with utility operations via the GE/Alstom eTerra SCADA system. Finally, the system is dispatched by a fleet scheduling system from Doosan GridTech called the Distributed Energy Resource Optimizer (DERO). MESA-1 comprises two sub-projects (MESA-1a and MESA-1b) at one substation site, both managed by a single instance of the Doosan GridTech Intelligent Controller.
