A portfolio of 12 solar-plus-storage projects provides clean power to communities served by Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) in Southeastern North Carolina. The unique portfolio of solar-plus-storage projects allows Brunswick EMC to avoid peaking costs and pass the savings to its member-owners. The system was developed, financed, built, and commissioned by Cypress Creek Renewables, after originally acquiring the projects from United Renewables. The 12 solar-plus-storage projects are comprised of 12 MWh of Lockheed Martin GridStar Lithium energy storage systems and 8.5MW of LG NeOn solar panels. The GridStar energy storage systems store power from the solar installations and discharge it when needed the most, enabling Brunswick EMC to reduce peak power requirements and provide reliable, renewable power to its member-owners. These projects enable solar energy to be dispatchable and responsive to changing customer load requirements, conditions on the grid, and in energy markets.
