EV4 has developed the innovative, solar-powered EV charging stations, trademarked as ETM™ (Energy Transfer Merchant) – a play on ATM. Like an ATM storing and dispensing money the ETM™ captures, stores and dispenses energy. The battery system is designed for fully automated operation with no user interaction. The battery management system includes battery string and battery module controllers that are fully automated. The ETM™ station is equipped with a battery storage system and is capable of AC (Level 2) and DC (Level 3) fast charging of electric vehicles (EV) with renewable energy, optionally accounting for the sources of clean energy used. The system consists of lithium-ion batteries with a standard 50kWh total capacity. This single phase connection to the grid is essential for installation of EV charging stations in rural areas where 3-phase is difficult to obtain, costly or non-existent. The solar roof has a 4.10 kW capacity and the electricity produced is fed-back into the grid when the battery is fully charged. There are no demand charges on the grid. The battery based DC fast charging is trademarked as DC2DC™.
